John and Alicia Boyd Scholarship Winners

John and Alicia Boyd Scholarship is founded by us, the Boyd Sisters. This scholarship is in honor of our parents, John and Alicia Boyd. The 2013 John and Alicia Boyd Scholarship grantees were chosen based on having a passion for community service, a strong academic background, and career goals.

Dwight Bolden is pressing toward the mark to serve mankind through protection. Dwight believes he is his brother's keeper and we do not live on this earth alone. As such, he is majoring in ROTC and Military Science at Aurora University. This will open the door for Dwight to serve in the military and to work for the United States Governmental Armed Forces or in human capital. As you can see, he is not the type of person to work behind a desk in an office, but to work in the field helping people. As the Boyd Sisters, we are happy to name Dwight the 2013 recipient of the John and Alicia Boyd Scholarship for $1,000!

We elected to create another scholarship called Joy Baby Scholarship. The scholarship is in honor of our grandmother, Joyce Perkins better known as Joy Baby. Joyce was more than a grandmother, but one of our dearest friends. The 2013 Joy Baby Scholarship recipient has to exemplify a godly young woman/man who has given back to the community, built a strong academic background, and career goals.

Dekonti Davies is aspiring to become an ophthalmologist because she has developed a passion to help solve the problem with human vision. She remembered always having her Nana (grandmother), who became her best friend. Her Nana was diagnosed with diabetes and started to struggle with her vision. After many operations, she ended up losing her sight. Dekonti had to assist her grandmother in reading her bills, writing her checks, etc. This created a spark in Dekonti to desire a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering at University of Missouri - Columbia and a medical degree to practice ophthalmology. She wants to pair the degrees to find ways to help treat her patients with vision problems. We truly believe that Jesus Christ reveals our God given purpose through our pain. Dekonti Davies truly exemplifies this to the utmost  We are proud to name Dekonti Davies as the recipient of the Joy Baby Scholarship for $1,000!

Inspirational Mondays - Luke Mason

Luke Mason of As Iron Sharpens Iron

1. Why did you choose Christ?

I did not choose Christ. I chose sin when I came into this world.As another who was featured on Inspirational Mondays put it, Christ chose me.The only reason I am saved is by His grace and His initiation.

About 2 years ago, I went to a Christian home school conference where I listenedto a speaker. God used his words to penetrate my heart like never before andgive me a passion to serve Him. The speaker's name was Eric Ludy, and I thankGod for his willingness to shout the truth into my generation.

I then followed my King simply because I could not do anything else. There wasno part of my life that was better than what it could be with my completedevotion to God. I saw the need I had and addressed it by accepting His gift ofeverlasting life.

2. How did you change?

Over thenext couple of years I stumbled through major changes in my lifestyle by onlythe grace of God. I stopped my useless idolatry in the form of"liking" girls. I attempted to rebuild my relationships with mysiblings. I tried to put God first in my consumption of entertainment. Iactually read my Bible (which was usually ignored before). I actually prayed tomy God (which never truly happened before this). I learned more and more aboutwhy I believe what I believe. God has kept me on the narrow road ever since andgiven me a passion to live truthfully and wholeheartedly for Him. I amcurrently 16 and write a Christian blog at "sharpenothers.org."I learn more about what it means to follow God every day and hope to lead thenext generation into a time of awakened need for the almighty Lord of lords. Inspirational Mondays - Jane Anne Lingan

1. Why did you choose Christ?

I'm a pastor's kid. I've been in church since who knows how long, but my heart was never really into it. I can't say that I was truly Christian from the beginning, but being surrounded by a Christian environment nurtured me to be who I am today.

I chose Christ because I felt Him and proceeded to see the change in my life. He was the only Constant, the only Person I can truly run to. He showed me His light when all I could make myself see was darkness. It was as if He was the only One who can truly give clarity and meaning to my life (and He was).

2. How did you change? 

I went through a rebellious phase in my life, which involved a guy. It was against my family's and church's wishes. A lot of drama went on, and we broke up. By then, my heart was stone cold and indifferent to anything or anyone. I couldn't trust other people anymore.

I moved out of my hometown for college, and got in a new church. My youth group was on such a high, a high that I never had, and it led me to question my standing with God. From then on, I responded to EVERY altar call. Because I just wasn't sure if I was saved or not.

Then came a circumstance, a revelation that brought me to my knees. I decided to give it up and just submit my heart to Him. He broke my heart that night, and I was never the same again. That was the night I found security of my salvation, that was the night I truly felt His overwhelming love and grace.

Looking back at my past, I can't help but laugh in wonder and amazement on how far God has brought me. Indeed, I am still a work in progress. There will always be molding. But He has changed so much already, and I'm excited to be the woman He wants me to be.

From the moment I encountered Christ, I couldn't be the same anymore. It's a matter of pursuing Him and allowing Him to pursue me. It's an everyday decision to obey Him and to submit my will to Him. I am but a clay in the Potter's hand.
